Obituary
Kenneth M. "Skip" Hilgeman, 68, passed away on January 20, 2025, in Fort Wayne, IN. Born on May 23, 1956, Ken was known for his unwavering kindness and respect toward others. He lived his life with calmness and a smile.
In his personal life, Ken was a devoted husband to his wife, Martha "Mert", whom he met and fell in love with when he was 15. They married when he was 17 and for 50 years they were committed to each other and to their son, Aaron.
Ken also cherished his relationships with his sisters, Kay Head and Debra Hilgeman. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Wanda Hilgeman, his brother Kevin Hilgeman, and his sister Michelle Harp.
Ken proudly served in the U.S. Army before starting a career as a master electrician with the Allen County government. He retired from the job that he loved in 2024 due to illness, having made significant contributions through his work.
The family wants to recognize the Fort Wayne VA Medical Center for its exceptional care and compassion in treating Ken during his illness.
One of Ken's passions was his 1969 Camaro, which he meticulously restored and drove only under perfect weather conditions. This hobby was a testament to his patience and attention to detail.
A memorial service to remember and celebrate his life will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton St., with calling one hour prior. Ken's legacy of kindness and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Fort Wayne animal shelter (humanefw.org).
