Kenneth Gene Aikins died on June 26th, at Dupont Hospital after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, Ken was born on June 2nd, 1952, to Gale E. and Lucille V. Aikins. He was a graduate of Carroll High School in 1971. Following his graduation, he became a proud member of the United States Air Force, and subsequently, the Air National Guard. He received his life's training as an electrician, heating and air conditioning specialist, and electrical motors technician as a member of the military, as well as further study at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne.
Ken was an avid NASCAR racing fan. His favorite driver was Bill Elliott and "whoever was in front of Earnhardt." He was an excellent gardener sharing the fruits of his labors with neighbors and family members alike. For the past several years, Ken would spend the winter months in Belize on a quiet island just off the mainland. Ken owned his own buisness, Ken's Electrical Service, and served clients all across northern Indiana.
Ken was preceded in death by his father and mother. Surviving are his sister, Patricia (Pat) Harris and her husband, Rick; a sister, Theresa Aranda; and a brother, Robert Aikins, as well as many nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Kenny." He was a faithful member of Crossbridge Community Church. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be scheduled at a later date.
