Obituary

Katie Cripe, 40, passed away, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in McPherson, Kansas, Katie was the daughter of John and Betsy (McCarney) Wagoner.  Katie graduated from Homestead High School, class of 2002.  She earned her bachelors degree from Manchester University in 2008.  Katie had been working at Lutheran Hospital as an Oncology Nurse Manager.

Katie was the friend that everyone hopes to find in life. She was compassionate, thoughtful, humble, affectionate, generous and absolutely not wanting any accolades or fanfare, almost stubbornly so. She strived to keep those she cared about first and foremost. She had a habit of always wanting to keep the conversation on the other person's needs, and not on herself, always striving to be there for others, yet remaining happily in the background.

Katie's absence leaves such a hole in the fabric of the lives of her family and friends that she so eloquently cultivated over the years. She had many dear friends from her career at Lutheran Hospital. Katie has shown us how to live this life and who we should all strive to be when we grow up, and in the words of Katie, "we can all do hard things."

Katie's passions were her son Liam, being surrounded by nature while taking adventures like hiking, kayaking, traveling to Boundary Waters with friends, and all things Harry Potter. She was a voracious reader, always reading and sharing her favorite books with others.

Katie's deep love for her son, and the ones she loved and cared about, was something special to see. Everyone felt calm, cared for, loved, cherished, and took her advice to heart, since it was always spot on.

Katie leaves behind her son, William (Liam) Cripe, South Bend, and his father, Christopher Michael Cripe, also of South Bend; brother, Michael (Kristin) Wagoner, Fort Wayne, and loving parents John and Betsy (McCarney) Wagoner, also of Fort Wayne.  Katie is now reunited with her son, David Michael Cripe, as well as grandparents, aunts and uncles.

A private family service will be held and a celebration of life will be planned and shared at a later date.
