Obituary

Kandice "Kandy" Kay Carpenter unexpectedly passed February 16, 2025, after complications from surgery, she was 77 years old. Kandy was born on August 17, 1947, to Lawrence and Lavina Pabst. She was raised in Woodburn, IN along with her sisters, Diane and Shirley, and brother Thom. She later moved to Ft. Wayne where she met and married her first love, Donald Jack Carpenter Jr. She is survived by her son Corey (Carolyn) Carpenter, daughter Carmen Lahrman ( Bryan Cook) grandchildren Zac Carpenter, Megan Wang, Tommy Lahrman, and Madison Esmond and four great grandchildren. Kandy was preceded in death by husband Don; parents Lawrence Pabst and Lavina Messman; sisters Diane and Shirley. So many people loved Kandy. She loved life and was more active than people half her age. Whether it be spending time outside in her garden, spending time helping her brother at trade shows, hitting up estate and garage sales with her daughter, or just being with friends and family. She was always on the go. She enjoyed a close-knit group of friends that she would have lunches with. She had her small yet wonderful fireman's group of ladies she met up with, her group of Dupont ladies, and from her class of 65 (a bigger group) of people that got together once a month! She had just made a trip to Florida to see her son Corey in August and enjoyed her time there very much. She would never have turned down an invite to FireKeepers. She had so many cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved so unconditionally she always looked forward to her selfless weekends that she entertained during the summers (years ago) at Lake Jimmerson and her impromptu hotel swimming gatherings to keep those that lived outside of Fort Wayne never disappointed! For those that know her well will know about her newfound love of a puppy that is a year and a half "Willow". Kandy spoiling her was an understatement. They were inseparable. Her camera roll is filled with countless videos of playing fetch with Willow, (or just pictures of Willow because she is just that adorable in mom's eyes) which she proudly shared with anyone willing to watch. Also, in her pictures are loving candid shots of her grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as many proud pictures of her brother Thom's wood creations, one of her favorites being the urn that he turned for her which will now hold her ashes. Kandy loved to stay busy and loved life. She had just joined a gym just 3 months prior with her daughter Carmen, her other constant. The relationship that they possessed is one to be envied and will be cherished. She was taken from us way too soon (and in my eyes unfair) and yet the number of lives she touched is immeasurable. She will be missed by so many... please add your pictures below or stories of her you may have. Mom you will be missed by so many but never ever forgotten!! Love you more!
