Josephine Thomas Hale, 82, received her wings and eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 27, 2024. She was born on May 5, 1942, in Clay County, Alabama to the elate Prince Albert and Katie Dale Thomas. Josie graduated from Hooper City High School in Alabama and later married David Hale. She was a loving mother of 2 children, a caring grandmother, and a great-grandmother. Josie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Goodwater, Alabama under the leadership of the late C.R. Hall. She moved to Bradford, Alabama and was a faithful member of Shady Grove Baptist Church under the late Pastor Lewis Allen until she relocated to Fort Wayne. In 1986, Josie moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and joined Antioch Baptist Church under the late Pastor C.E. Walker. She served as a faithful member of Antioch under Pastor Fred Morris until her health no longer allowed her to. Josie was a Bible Scholar who enjoyed teaching the Word. She served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, she was a devotion leader, a choir member, and a Sunday School Teacher. Everyone loved her coffee! Josie was an awesome seamstress; she was a terrific cook and she loved bargain shopping. Josie was a two-time breast cancer survivor and loved doing yearly activities and outings with the Cancer Society. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Wanda (Joe) Woods; grandchildren, Gregory (Marsha) Woods, Jessica (Rodney) Roberson, Jasmine (Jeffrey) Rogan, Jalisa Woods, Jayla Woods, Kayla Woods, Jaliyah Woods, Christopher Jackson, Eric Hale Jr. Trinidy Curry; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Margaret Thomas. Josephine was preceded in death by her son, Eric M. Hale; grandchildren, Emmanuel Jones, Arsineol Jackson; and siblings, Joe Frank Thomas and Annie Odell Kelly. Service is 11 am, Friday, June 7, 2024, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 425 Agnes Street, with calling from 9 am until the services. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
