John Howard Melton, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was born to the late Albert and Ruth (Price) Melton in Middlesboro, KY on March 17, 1941. John proudly served in the US Army. He was an excellent welder, fabricator, and mechanic. John enjoyed gardening, loved to cook and grilled the best BBQ. He was deeply loved by his family.

John is survived by his children, John F. (Lisa J.) Melton, Julie (Tom) Kostecki, Mike Payne, and Kelly Payne; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty, Florence, Wilma, Mitzi and Kay; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Wayne and Helen; and great-grandson, Devon Hovis.

Services will be announced at a later date.
