John Lee Flanagan, 73, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the Grey Stone Health Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 10, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Leo John and Bonnie Jean (Raber) Flanagan.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years of marriage, Margaret "Peggy" (Mote) Flanagan. He had no children except nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cousins are Kerry and John Coomer of Sturgis, Michigan, Janet and Roger Small of Lansing, Michigan, Karla (Wally) Messing of Decatur, Indiana, Steve and Nancy Stopher of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Barb and Bill Overdeer of Columbia City, Indiana, and Carol Stopher of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Judy Mote of Fresno, California; and nephew, Scott Michaels. He is also survived by his best friend who is like a brother to him, Jim Sours, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Hazel Flanagan; aunt, Chy Leighner; uncle, Keith Leighner; and cousin, Marcia (Harold) Ladd.
He was a graduate of Elmhurst High School in 1969. He attended one year of college at Purdue University in Fort Wayne. He worked at Maloley's Grocery Store in Waynedale. He retired from Lincoln Food Service in Fort Wayne after forty years in the shipping department, before the plant closed.
John enjoyed bowling and was in a league with his wife. He was an avid hockey fan and attended Komet Hockey games. He enjoyed going out to eat and making friends at our Covenant United Methodist Church.
A committal service will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Waynedale on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 11:30 am. A memorial service will be at Covenant United Methodist Church (10001 Coldwater Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825) on Thursday, September 5th, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Turnstone Center for Children & Adults with Disabilities.
