Joel Vincent Ley, 70, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, July 10th, 2026.
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Joel was the son of Arnold and Phyllis (Hardy) Ley. He graduated from North Side High School and continued his education at Ivy Tech Community College.
Joel met the love of his life, Susan Odem, at church, where their shared faith became the foundation of a loving and devoted marriage. They were united in marriage on October 18th,
1980, and built a life centered on faith, family, and serving others. Joel began his career in the photography industry, where he worked in the darkroom
developing photographs.
He later put his mechanical talents to work at Home Appliance, servicing household appliances throughout the area. He eventually joined Edy's Ice Cream,
where he worked in the warehouse for more than 20 years before retiring. Gifted with an incredible ability to understand how things worked, Joel could seemingly fix just about anything. Whether repairing something that was broken, building a practical project around the house, or helping a friend with a repair, he found genuine satisfaction in using his
hands and talents to serve others. Whenever someone was in need, Joel was often one of the first to offer his time and assistance without expecting anything in return.
His greatest passion, however, was his faith in Jesus Christ. Joel was a faithful and active member of Covenant Truth Apostolic Church in New Haven, where he found great joy in worship, fellowship, and living out his faith. He will be remembered for his quirky personality, servant's heart, and steadfast trust in the Lord, which were evident to all who knew him. Above all, Joel loved his family. He treasured the time he spent with Susan and his sons, and his life was a reflection of humility, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Susan Ley; sons, Nicolas (Celia) Ley and Kenton Ley; step-grandchildren, Katherine and Astrid; brothers, Bruce Ley, Andrew (Ellen) Ley, Matthew (Vickie) Ley, and Eric (Rose) Ley; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Joel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rick Ley and Denis Ley; and his sister, Elizabeth Ley.
