IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean
Mendenhall
August 4, 1938 – April 15, 2025
Jean Mendenhall, age 86, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in Fort Wayne. She was born in Churubusco, Indiana, to the late Joseph and Ruth Hyndman.
Jean loved working in her various flower and vegetable gardens, relaxing admiring her flowers on the swing in the backyard, and visiting with friends, family and neighbors on the front porch. She retired in her early sixties from the Boy Scouts of America. Devoting her time to her neighborhood association, Northside Alumni at Northside High School, the City of Fort Wayne Anti-graffity committee, helped design the Franklin school arch of the new Franklin Park. Mayor Tom Henry recognized their contributions by declaring January 10th, Bud and Jean Mendenhall Day. Jean and her husband, Bud enjoyed the music of the Four Freshman so much they were members of the Fort Wayne chapter for the Four Freshmen fan club and traveled all over the United States to attend the conventions and hear them play. She will be greatly missed.
Jean is survived by her children, Shelley Mendenhall, Denise (Joe) Chacon, and Michael (Marilena) Mendenhall; four grandchildren, Jamie (Don III) Banowetz, Austin (Kirsten) Fanning, Joey (Alyssa) Chacon, and Brenna Chacon; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter "Bud" Mendenhall, and her grandson, Michael Mendenhall.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
