Janet Grote Bradbury, 77, of Fort Wayne, died on Saturday, August 27, 2016 after a short battle with brain cancer. Born in Fort Wayne, Janet was the daughter of Raymond and Hilda Margaret Grote. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Saint Francis and began her 30-year teaching career with Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1968. She later completed her Master's Degree, also from Saint Francis, and spent a year at Indiana University, Bloomington, working on her PhD.
She was also a Fort Wayne City Councilwoman-at-large for 14 years, where she was most proud of her work in animal care and control, collective bargaining for city union workers, and environmental awareness. She was also an active member of the Fort Wayne Education Association and represented Fort Wayne teachers at numerous national conventions across the country.
She enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. Her adventurous side led her to visit many places in the world, including China, Australia, and Europe, and in Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa.
She is survived by daughters Karen Bradbury, Barbara (Bill) Howard and son Michael Bradbury. She was blessed to have three wonderful grandchildren, Sarah and Kaitlin Howard, and Tyler Bradbury. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lloyd Bradbury.
A celebration of Janet's life will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 7p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home, 6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 with calling hours from 5p.m. to 7p.m.
In lieu, of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control.
