James L. Witmer, 82, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Born in New Haven, Indiana, James was the son of the late Levi and Minnie Witmer. James graduated from New Haven High School, class of 1954. He graduated Cum Laude from Ivy Tech in May 2004 with a Medical Assistant degree. James was the owner of Witmer Homes of Auburn, three Century 21 franchises, worked with his brother Ray, at R.D. Witmer Construction, and at Premier Realtors. James claimed First Place in the 1977 Ft. Wayne Parade of Homes. He was a home builder and realtor for over 50 years, earning the status of Realtor Emeritus from the National Association of Realtors. James was a licensed pilot. He enjoyed being on the beach, hiking, watching IU Basketball, and the Cleveland Indians. Surviving are his daughter, Kelli Witmer; longtime companion, Lynne Leckie; sister, Annabel Coblentz; and many nieces and nephews, including Linda Witmer & Connie Budden. James was preceded in death by his daughter Karolyn Witmer-Mosshammer, and his eight siblings. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 pm Friday, December 21, 2018 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street with calling from 12 pm until the service.
