James D. Thompson, age 88, of Auburn, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 2, 2025.  He was born in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Fred and Angela Thompson, James led a life filled with dedication, service, and passion.James proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy before embarking on a successful career as an engineer with Zollner Corporation. A man of deep faith, he was an active member of the Covenant of Peace Church, where he shared his musical talents by singing and playing harmonica and keyboard in the worship band.James is survived by his wife, Nancy Wheeler-Thompson;  children, Colleen (Alan) Oser, David Thompson, Lisa (Henry Curry) Howard, Connie (Dan) Hamilton, and Michelle Thompson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  daughter-in-law, Rose Thompson; step-children, Cornell (Dana) Vlot, Terral (Benard Lash) Vlot, and Mishelle (Chris) Overbey; and sisters, Karen Gresham and Dorothy Brickel.

He was also preceded in death by his sons, Larry Thompson and  Ralph Thompson;  brother, Joe Thompson; and daughter-in-law, Vicky Thompson.

Service is 1:00 pm, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N.
