James E. Stoltz, a devoted educator, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on August 15, 1942, and passed away on April 14th at home, leaving behind a legacy of service, faith, and family.
Born to Gahlon and Virginia Stoltz, James dedicated his life to learning and helping others. He earned his master’s degree from Indiana University and went on to serve his community as a teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools for 30 years, where he impacted countless students and colleagues. In addition to his work in education, he also served at the State Hospital, further reflecting his commitment to caring for others.
In 1998, James married Karen J. (Freeze) Vice. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and community. He was a faithful member of Central Ministries, where he found fellowship and purpose.
James was a proud and loving father to James G. (Jenny) Stoltz, Christy (Jeff) Ray, and Andy (Alisa) Stoltz, and a loving stepfather to Janelle (Mike) Luckett and Julie (Dave) Thiel. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Caleb Stoltz, Samuel Stoltz, Madison (Jacob) Wood, Grace Stoltz, Isaac (Emma) Luckett, Jasmine Luckett, and Kaitlynn Thiel. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Jane Wood.
A memorial service will be held on May 9th, 2026 at the Leo Campus of Central Ministries (14717 Amstutz Rd
Leo, 46765) at 12:00 pm with visitation beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice.
James will be remembered for his dedication to education, his steady faith, and the love he had for his family. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
