Obituary

James W. Brake, age 95, died September 22, 2025, at Lutheran Life Villages, Fort Wayne. Jim was born in Fort Wayne, January 11, 1930, the only child of Walter and Elizabeth (Aurand) Brake. He was a proud South Side High School Archer, class of 1948. Jim served his country in active duty with the US Air Force from 1949 to 1953. He also served in the USAF Reserve from 1953 to 1960. In 2019, Jim went on Honor Flight #33 to Washington, DC with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana. Jim's entire career was centered at General Electric in Fort Wayne, where he lived for most of his life. Jim loved woodworking, making Christmas Santas and wooden trains. He enjoyed his many adventures in Cape Coral, Florida, where he lived for about ten years. Jim also loved a good Rob Roy. Jim is survived by daughters, Deborah (Beth Goldsmith) Romary, Fort Wayne; and Laura Hetrick-Hall, Westfield, IN. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Adrienne (Christopher) Baltes, Fort Wayne; Austin (Katelyn Durkin) Hetrick, Chicago, IL.; Zachary (Helene) Hetrick, Brooklyn, NY; Erin Hall, Fort Worth, TX.; and also by four great-grandchildren: Joseph and Edward Baltes, and Collins and Eliza Hetrick. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Patricia, second wife, Mary, son-in-law, David Hall, and son-in-law, Robert Mutschler.
