Obituary
Inez Jean Burch, age 85, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Scottsdale, AZ, and Napa, CA, passed away Friday, January 26th, 2024 at her home, where she was surrounded by her three loving daughters and faithful companion Rico the chihuahua.
Inez was born in Fort Wayne, to the late Oscar and Viola Carnes. She worked as a nurse with the VA Hospital and later in cardiac rehab. She was a member of First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women in Faith, and served as a Stephen Minister.
She was an avid traveler and reader, a devoted member of her church, and a dedicated volunteer -- staffing rummage sales, tutoring local schoolchildren, providing one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, and spending weeks at a time onsite helping build houses into homes for those in need.
Inez loved her family fiercely -- especially her four grandchildren -- and bragged endlessly to any who would listen. Her pride overflowed these past two years with the arrival of three great-grandchildren from her adult grandchildren in California.
Inez is survived by her children, Melissa (Andy) Menard of Orangevale, CA, Denise (Eric Weinstein) Burch of Chicago, IL, and Danielle (Joseph) Vaccaro of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Andrew (Alexandra) Menard, Kendall (Sydney) Menard, Oliver Weinstein, and Lucy Weinstein; great-grandchildren, Callahan, Zoe, and Porter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Raymond Burch; and her brother, Gary Carnes.
Inez was known as a woman who spoke her mind, proudly wearing her #NoFilters sweatshirt and earning the labels witty, snarky, even ornery with her irreverent sense of humor and no-nonsense approach to life. She loved to laugh and had a gift for making others laugh with her. She will be missed.
Service is 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2024 at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church, 300 E. Wayne St., with calling one hour prior.
