Obituary

Wilbur "Harold" McKenzie, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday June 8, 2024, in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in a cabin in Barnetts Creek, KY on May 15, 1938, to the late Mitchell & Grace McKenzie. He attended school in Flat Gap. Harold enlisted and served in the Air Force from 1956-1960.

Harold relocated to Fort Wayne, IN shortly after his military service in the 60's to find work but more importantly to be near family that had moved here for work. Harold stumbled through a variety of jobs trying to find a job that perfect job that allowed him to use his attraction to "tinkering" combined with his engineering abilities. He found that job at Magnavox where he worked for 32 years before retiring.

Harold loved cars. He was the Crew Chief for a stock car #77 that raced at the Avilla Raceway in the 70's. Harold was known as a tinker. He had a mechanical engineering mind and could fix many issues that surpassed the abilities of most. His family always said, "it's not considered broke until Harold says it is." Harold also thoroughly enjoyed fishing, Bass fishing was his favorite but any time he had a pole in his hand, he loved life. Hunting was on his list of choice adventures . Harold's greatest love was his family. He spent countless hours doing research on the families' genealogy. There was absolutely nothing more important to him than spending time with those he loved. He would spend hours on the phone and reminiscing with family. He was the family jokester. Harold had a profound sense of humor that will definitely spark thoughts of laughter in days ahead. My prayer is that this huge hole filled with grief, will one day be filled with remembered stories shared at any open opportunity and fond memories that will develop smiles on faces that he too will see. We will celebrate this great family man, amazing human and a life well lived. Get your well-deserved rest dear Harold, you will be incredibly missed while fondly remembered by all who knew you.

Harold is survived by his daughters Shannon Miller, Tanya Ward;
Grandchildren, Paris Rodriguez, Mark Miller(Annan), Jacob Miller, Johnny Gonzalez (Jackie M), Maria Ybarra, Savannah Ybarra; & 9 great grand kids.

Harold is predeceased in death by Brother Gerald McKenzie; and his wife Patricia McKenzie.
