Gregory M. “Greg” Schaefer, 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Greg was a son of the late Robert and Marilyn (Moore) Schaefer.

Greg met the love of his life, Amiee Freck, at a Steak ’n Shake, and the two were married on August 5, 1995. Together, they shared 31 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Greg spent his career in automobile sales and worked as a salesman at Fort Wayne Kia for more than 10 years. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed staying busy, especially when it came to working around the house and building things. Greg was also a fantastic cook and took great pride in preparing meals, especially when it came to BBQ. Greg was a proud Eagle Scout, an accomplishment that reflected his dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving others.

Above all, Greg loved spending time with his family. He was known for his great sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. He loved telling jokes, enjoying a good time, and simply being surrounded by the people he cared about most. He had a love for the outdoors, traveling and enjoyed the many adventures that came with it. A devoted St. Louis sports fan, Greg also followed the Kansas City Chiefs and Notre Dame. He appreciated the simple things in life and was happiest making memories with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Amiee Schaefer; children, Preonda (Stephanie) Reese and Johnathon Schaefer; granddaughter, Zayde Reese; siblings, Diane (Doug) Follmer, Mike (Pat) Schaefer, Dave (Patty) Schaefer, Richard (Debbie) Schaefer, and Laura (Rodney) Franey; sister-in-law, Wendy (Brent) Scott; brother-in-law, Greg Hakenewerth; along with a host of nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Hakenewerth.

A Celebration of Greg’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, with calling from 2:00 p.m. until the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
