Gregory Steven
Luce
February 4, 1964 – February 20, 2026
Gregory “Greg” Luce, 62, of Fort Wayne, passed away at home on Friday, February 20, 2026. He was born to the late Teddy Leroy and Barbara Jean (Shaw) Luce on February 4, 1964 in Fort Wayne.
Greg worked several jobs throughout his life: Atz’s Ice Cream, US Cable-Westinghouse Cable Division (built the first cable wire system in the area), JAT Trucking, Carnation, Nestle, and QC Communications—ultimately he worked with his father, Ted, maintaining and restoring vehicles at Luce’s Auto Sales until Greg’s health forced an early retirement in 2020. He was proud of all his work: every job he had was one that connected other people together, gave them joy, and in many cases provided something that his community needed.
He loved everything with an engine: whether it was as small as a miniature radio-controlled toy, as portable as a power tool, or as massive as a jumbo jet; power equipment always brought a smile to his face. His vacation destinations were engine-related too. Every year he looked forward to going to Auburn for the auto auction with his family, and he made it to races every chance he got, whether they were local derbies and tractor pulls or NASCAR competitions.
Greg loved fast things, but he also loved to take things slow. He loved being out in nature, fishing, kayaking, and visiting or feeding animals. He enjoyed the calm of an afternoon at the farm, a drive down a quiet country road, or the simple joy of a glass of milk and a handful of cookies. If you caught him on the right night, he might have been stargazing or sitting on a country road near a runway at night to watch planes come and go.
Greg was a fan of Komets Hockey, rock and roll, and every festival he could get to. He loved to watch people do amazing things; he loved to watch people do everyday things; he was a sponge that took in the world around him. Because he was able to find something interesting everywhere he went, he often had a story to tell for those who slowed down to listen, especially if there was some candy nearby to share.
Greg is survived by his daughters, Teri (David Predina) Luce and Jillian (James) Reid of Fort Wayne; son, Christopher (Kinzie) Luce of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Kadence and Grant Luce and Jeremiah Reid; sisters, Nancy Kensill-Grubb of Angola and Tammy (Deron) Ballenger of Fort Wayne; along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Darren Luce; and grandson, Jacob Reid.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825) with a funeral service beginning at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Fort Wayne.
