Obituary

Gregory Robert Harjer, 74, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026. Born in Muskegon, Michigan, on February 15, 1952, Greg spent his childhood there and remained deeply connected to the community that shaped him.
Greg attended Muskegon Catholic Central School through his junior year before graduating from Spring Lake High School. Throughout his life he was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He owned and operated Gregory’s Fresh Produce for many years, becoming a familiar face to many throughout the area. Although his career took him in several different directions over the years, he ultimately retired from Bob Evans, where he enjoyed meeting people and forming lasting friendships.

Greg found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time on the water, riding his motorcycle, taking trips to Las Vegas and local casinos, cheering on the Detroit Lions, and beginning many mornings with a cup of coffee and the newspaper at Idle Hour, where he was a familiar face.

Those who knew Greg will remember his quick wit, endless jokes, clever puns, and the smile he could bring to those around him. He was stubborn in the best of ways, fiercely protective of those he loved, and always ready with a humorous remark. While he treasured many things throughout his life, nothing meant more to him than his family. His daughter was the center of his world, a love that only grew as he welcomed his grandsons and son-in-law into his life. One of his favorite expressions was, “I love you more than the whole outdoors,” a phrase that will forever remain a cherished reminder of his unwavering love.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Harjer and F. Loraine Harjer, and his sister, Barbara Ledger Smith.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Hilary Horrell; his son-in-law, Mark Horrell; his grandsons, Zakkary Major and Layne Major; his sister, Phyllis Terwilliger; and many extended family members and friends who will miss his laughter, stories, and unmistakable sense of humor.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Muskegon, Michigan, area at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor Greg’s life, share memories, and celebrate the many smiles he brought to others.
Though he has left this world, Greg’s love, laughter, and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
