Gertrude "The Gert" A. Davis, 90, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday March 20th, 2023, at her home. She was born in Safford, Ala. to the late Leo and Sarah Abraham. Gertrude graduated from Robert Hatch High School. She moved to Fort Wayne in 1951 and started working at General Electric in 1953 where she worked for 39 years. Gertrude was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church since 1970 under the leadership of Rev. James G. Fincher. At church she was a member of the Gospel Chorus, the Missionary Society, and was past president of the Pastor's Aide. On April 9th, 1955 she married Willie G. Davis in Fort Wayne.
Gertrude is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Wallace, and Janice (Steven) Tate; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren, including special great grandson Jermaine Maxwell; sisters, Fannie Walker, Clara Walker, Beatrice Ervin; sister in law, Carolyn Norwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie G Davis, in 2001; sons, Clifford Davis, and Gary Davis; brothers, Kurtis Abraham, and Tommy Norwood Jr; sisters, Willa Mae Smith, Ella Ree Black, and Bettyjean Fields; stepfather, Tommy Norwood.
Funeral services for Gertrude will be on Saturday March 25th 2023 at 11:00 am with calling beginning at 10:00 am, at Faith Missionary Baptist Church, 5515 Hanna Street in Fort Wayne. Burial will follow at Lindenwood Cemetery.
