George Alexander Polinuk, 90, of LaOtto, Indiana passed away on November 12, 2024 at Sacred Heart Village in Avilla where he resided since March of 2024. George was born on March 29, 1934 in Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada the son of the late Nicoli and Anne Polinuk. George came to the United States in the early 1950's to for the Komet Hockey Team as a trainer and substitute goalie. George also worked for the Cleveland Barons Hockey Team from 1963-1964. George worked for Aalco Distributing Company in Fort Wayne for over 50 years, prior to his retirement in 2003. George met the love of his life Shirley McConnell and they were married on December 17, 1958. Together they raised 3 children; Darcy (Rich) Augenstein of New Haven, Stephanie (Mike) Detter of Kendallville and Richard Polinuk of Auburn. George became a U.S. citizen in 1993. George enjoyed family get togethers, fishing and making trips to Canada to visit family. George is survived by his children; grandchildren, Eric (Angie) Traxler, Abbey (Steve) Mieritz, Phillip Coffel, Justin (Stacia) Traxler, Brant (Chaning) Detter, Alex (Innah) Coffel; great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Frauhiger; Callie, Blakely and Collin Detter; Adelyn, Colsten and Tessa Traxler; step-great-grandchildren, Lillian and Rose Tarlton. George was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley in 2021; and granddaughter, Gabrielle Marie Frauhiger in 2006. Service is 11 am, Monday, November 18, 2024 at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street, with calling one hour prior. Calling also on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Humane Fort Wayne.
