Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Alan Sutter, 68, on January 2, 2024. He peacefully passed, surrounded by his loved ones. Gary was born on July 16, 1955, in Elkhart, Indiana, to the late Harold Sutter and Rosalie (Miller) Sutter Hazen, who lovingly survives him. He spent his early years in South Whitley, where he developed a deep connection to the community. Gary was a 1973 graduate of Whitko High School. Known for his warmth, honor, and unwavering kindness, Gary touched the lives of those around him. In his professional life, Gary began working at Instrumental Machine & Development In. on January 14, 2011, as a wire EDM operator. He dedicated himself to his work, becoming an integral part of the team. Gary's commitment and skills left a lasting impact on colleagues and the organization. He worked at IMD until his passing. In his youth, Gary enjoyed racing go-karts with his father, creating cherished memories and laying the foundation for a lifelong love of motorsports. Gary's early experiences on the racetrack instilled in him a passion for speed and competition that stayed with him throughout his life. Gary had a passion for golf, spending countless hours on the golf course enjoying the sport he loved. He also cherished his horse, Boone, finding solace and joy in their companionship. In quieter moments, Gary found relaxation watching old westerns, appreciating the timeless tales of the American frontier. Gary was a proud fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Bears. He would passionately support his teams, creating lasting memories with friends and family during games. A true do-it-yourself enthusiast, Gary was great at performing projects around his property. His excellent eye for detail and joy in renovation, construction, and designing home projects made him a true artisan. Whether building, fixing, or creating, Gary's hands-on approach and love for DIY projects were evident in every endeavor. Additionally, Gary was a car enthusiast who loved working on cars, especially with his son Brad. Their shared passion for automobiles created countless memories and strengthened the bond between father and son. Gary is survived by his wife, Christina Sutter; his mother, Rosalie (Miller) Sutter Hazen; children, Brad (Amy) Sutter, Holly Sutter; step-children, Eric (Melissa) Ogg, Kirsten (Tory) Simmers, Natalie (Brad) Crossland, Morgan (David) Smith; grandchildren, Alison Sutter, Drew Sutter, Ari Schurger, Amina Schurger, and Brooklyn Smith, and siblings, Cheryl (Jim) Yeager. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Harold Sutter; and sister, Michelle (Sutter) Savant. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with them in eternal peace. A Memorial Service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at 4 pm, Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6318 W. California Road. Friends and family are invited to join and share their memories of Gary. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donation to his wife's rescue, Beagles R Us Rescue, 7042 S. 500 E. Columbia City, IN 46725. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the support and condolences during this difficult time. May Gary's soul rest in peace.
