Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gary "Cork" Spangler

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cork — a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, caring brother, and proud Navy veteran — who passed away peacefully at home on October 30. He was 80 years old.

Born on October 22, 1945, in San Diego, California, Cork lived a life marked by kindness, hard work, and a deep love for those around him.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Navy, Cork returned home to build a life rooted in family, faith, and community.

He married Jacque on November 6, 1971, and they would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, faith, and family.

Cork was a proud father to Sahsha (Jason) Tigulis, Brady (Tracy) Spangler, and Sarah (Nick) Staker, who will always remember his steady guidance, sarcastic humor, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. He was the heart of every gathering — the one with a story to tell (often with no filter), a helping hand to offer, and a genuine smile.

Those who were lucky enough to know him will carry his warmth and wisdom in their hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque (Zirkle) Spangler; his three children, Sahsha (Jason) Tigulis, Brady (Tracy) Spangler, and Sarah (Nick) Staker; his grandchildren, Jackson Tigulis, Landin, Ava, and Colten Staker, Haven and Ryder Spangler; and his brothers, Dale Spangler and Glen "Pete" Spangler. He was preceded in death by his father, Estel Spangler, and his mother, Dorothy (Smith) Spangler.

A celebration of Cork's life will be held on Tuesday, November 4, at noon located at Fairhaven Funeral Home (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN) with visitation from 9am until the service. A burial following the service will take place at Huntertown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the countless lives he touched.
