Obituary
Frances R. Foster of Ft. Wayne, IN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. She was born May 11, 1938, in Terre Haute, Indiana to George and Idella (Jackson) Burnham. She graduated from Flora High School in 1956 and attended IU Nursing School. She was a stay-at-home mother and was very active in many volunteer organizations, including president of the Indiana State Medical Alliance. In this capacity, she promoted and pursued with the Indiana Legislature, to make spousal abuse a criminal act. She was a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader. She started PTA's in two different communities, delivered Home Bound Meals for 25 years and was president of the organization for a term. Faith played an important in Frances' life and she was very involved as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and supervisor of Vacation Bible School.
Although Frances was very active in her community, her family was most important to her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John A. Foster and one daughter, Dr. Julia A.Foster.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Erwin (Jim) and Dawna Clawson (Dan), and son David Foster (Lisa). She derived much joy and pride from her grandchildren: Jonathan Erwin, Sara (Sawrie) Erwin, TJ Foster, Jason Foster, and Adam Foster and step-grandson, Zac Hunsucker. Frances was also blessed with two great-granddaughters: Finley Erwin and Rue Erwin.
Frances touched many lives and always opened her home and heart to others. She will be truly missed.
The family is holding a private Celebration of Life service and is asking in lieu of flowers, that donations could be made to one of the following: to the Indiana Medical History Museum in Dr. Julia Foster's name, 3045 Vermont Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46222 or First United Methodist Church, 1700 State Road 26, West Lafayette, Indiana or the Community Foundation for Julia Foster MD Endowment #88, 56 N. Main Street, Martinsville, IN 46151.
