Evan Daniel Cox (26) of Fort Wayne, IN suddenly passed away with his wife, Victoria Elaine Cox (32) on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
Evan was born in Anderson, IN on July 11, 1997 to his parents Brenda and Dobie Cox.
In his childhood, Evan AKA: Dingo, Pig 3, Slade, was sweet, sensitive, shy-at times, and a mamas boy. Evan loved his mother and father fiercely, and they loved him immensely. He looked up to his older siblings, and was influenced by them in many ways. He had a very special and close bond with Eric and Shelby, his brother and sister. His brother, Eric shared a love of music with him that stuck with him into his adulthood.
He was a member of the Boy Scout's, 4-H, and took guitar lessons.
Evan attended school in Frankton, IN where he graduated from Frankton Jr/Sr High School in 2016. Evan was an incredibly intelligent student with an inquisitive mind. He was involved in his school's band where he played percussion, and was also on the tennis team.
During his adolescence, he was heavily involved in his youth group "Re:mix" at Faith Assembly of God in Anderson, IN. He played guitar for the worship team, made lifetime friends, and most importantly grew in his faith, yearning to be more like Jesus.
After school Evan moved to Fort Wayne, IN and was apart of IMC where he began to build his own life, meet friends that became family to him, and most significantly, where he met the love of his life, Victoria "Vicks", to him.
In his young adulthood, Evan blossomed. He was no longer the shy and quiet kid. He became his best self, discovered who he was, and found his voice. He developed a love for cooking, and was extremely talented at it. He even began what he called his "side hustle", and would meal prep food he created for others. Evan was employed by Parkview Regional Medical Center as a chef, doing what he loved. He enjoyed working with his co-workers, and made many friends. Evan was a strong advocate for social justice, political reform, and for loving others just like Jesus would do. His heart became so full of love and his passion for people was unwavering. Evan wanted the world to be just for everyone. He was a peacemaker.
The most beautiful and joyous time of his life was when he and Vickey found one another. The two married each other and became one on November 3, 2022 surrounded by their proud family and friends. Evan loved his wife deeply, unconditionally, purely, and with his entire being. They were a match made in heaven. God created Evan to love Vickey, and her for him. Together, while not nearly long enough, they created a life they loved living. They traveled many of trips together, went on a honeymoon, and even hoped to have children someday. Evan and Vickey celebrated their one year wedding anniversary this year on November 3rd.
Evan was a piece of all of his family and friends. He looked like his mom, Brenda, apart from the red hair, of course. They shared a love for people, a lot of which was instilled by her. He was rational and honest like his dad, Dobie, who taught him how to stand up for the good of others, and be forgiving. He was kind-hearted like Eric, his brother, and sometimes shared the same facial expressions as him. He was gentle like his sister, Shelby and at certain times he could be silly like her too-except in his own dry sense of humor way. Evan became an uncle in 2018, when his niece, Isla Violet Miller was born to his sister, Shelby. Evan loved Isla greatly, and in the short amount of time she has been alive, Isla shaped his heart too by softening it even more so. While it is important to mention how his family shaped him into the man he was, it is more so imperative to share how Evan was uniquely and unapologetically himself. Evan was bold, he was passionate, he was brave, he was truthful, and he was pure.
Evan was preceded in death by his grandmother, "Meme" Mary Elizabeth James, his step-grandfather, William "Porky Paw"James, his grandfather, Harold Max Boyer, his uncle, Jeffrey Cantrell, and his aunt, Mary Beth Cox.
Evan is survived by his loving parents, Brenda and Dobie Cox, his siblings, Eric and Shelby Cox, his niece, Isla Miller, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Angela and Scott Schaefer Sr, his brother-in-law, Scott "Scotty" Schaefer Jr, his grandparents, Frances Boyer, Robert "Bob" and Betty Cox, grandmother in laws, Barbara A. Gee and Carol F. Schaefer, his uncles Tim Cox (Tami) Toby Cox, and Michael Boyer (Becky), his aunts, Jennifer Armstrong (Uriah), and Beverly Cantrell. Evan's cousins, Regina Cantrell-Kinzfogl (John), Tarah Cantrell-Brown (Laurence), Otis Cantrell, Jeff Cox (Alicia), Shane Cox (Jessica), Kent Cox, Abby Cox (Karma), Sarah Cox, Hannah Cox, Jacob Cox, and along with his many friends who were family to him.
Evan made an impactful mark on this world and was the perfect example of a good and faithful servant. The inexplicable and tragic loss of Evan and his beautiful wife, Victoria has left the hearts of their family and friends shattered, but the love for them will remain eternally.
A celebration of life ceremony for both Evan and Victoria will be held together at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 18, 2023 at First Assembly of God, 1400 W. Washington Center Rd., with calling two hours prior beginning at 12:00 pm.
Lastly, Evan and Victoria were unfairly and unnecessarily taken from this world due to a car collision where another driver is suspected of driving while impaired. The families of Evan and Vickey wish to spread awareness about impaired driving and plead with everyone to take an initiative to stop and think before getting behind the wheel impaired. Additionally, they would like to express that Evan and Victoria would want us all to forgive this individual for their choices, and we must not hate them despite our despair or anger. Evan's parents would like to share a verse that holds special significance in honoring Evan's message to the world:
John 13:34
I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.
