"Be Exceptional"
November 23, 2003 - May 19, 2024
Erik James Schultz, 20 years young, a vibrant soul whose life was cut short tragically in an auto accident, leaves behind a legacy of passion, kindness, and an unyielding love for life. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on November 23, 2003, Erik was a beacon of light to all who knew him.
Erik was on the precipice of a promising future, weeks away from walking in his commencement from having earned his associate's degree in automotive technology from the University of Northwestern, Ohio in March 2024. His dedication to his studies was matched only by his fervor for hands-on work and his love for all things automotive. A graduate of Homestead High School, Fort Wayne Indiana class of 2022, Erik's ambition extended far beyond the classroom.
His passion for mechanics was not confined to his academic pursuits; he lived and breathed it every day as an esteemed hydraulics technician at ALTECH, Fort Wayne Indiana. His talents were matched only by his love for nature, whether he was fishing, adventuring into the outdoors, or riding his longboard.
His love for speed transcended the asphalt, as he joyfully modified his minibike and anything else he could coax to go faster. His collection of Hot Wheels was a testament to his lifelong fascination with all things automotive as well as delighting in attending car shows. A fixture at the YMCA, Erik poured his heart into fitness and weightlifting, pushing his boundaries physically and mentally. He found solace and strength in his faith, cherishing his relationship with God as a devout Christian and member of both The Chapel in Fort Wayne, Indiana and the House of Prayer Lima in Lima, Ohio.
In addition to his pursuits, Erik found joy in the simplicity of life, relishing rounds of golf and cherishing moments spent with his family and friends. His humor, ambition, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Erik leaves behind a shattered but grateful family: his beloved mother Sharon Schultz (Kovalak), his adored father Greg Schultz, his cherished sister Sarah Haas (Adkins) her husband Joe Haas and his nieces Olivia Haas and Makenna Haas. As well as dear cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and close friends. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the love he shared.
As we gather to honor Erik's life, let us celebrate the joy he brought into the world. The viewing will take place from 12 pm to 3 pm on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, followed by a church service from 3 pm to 3:45 pm and luncheon immediately following at The Chapel, 2505 W Hamilton Rd S, Fort Wayne, IN 46814. Let us remember Erik not with tears, but with smiles, as we carry his legacy forward in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation to The Chapel, Erik would have appreciated that.
