Obituary

Edythe Lavern Vibbert, age 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2025. Born in Oklahoma in 1925, she lived a life filled with remarkable resilience, love, and faith, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Edythe was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde Vibbert, her son-in-law, Clayton Turner Jr., her grandson, Clayton Turner III, five sisters, and four brothers. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Gladys Witt of Greeley, Colorado; two daughters, Judy Turner and Jeanne (Jim) Alcorn of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, James "Jimmy" (Michelle) Alcorn of Indianapolis, Indiana, and April (Todd) Busse of Decatur, Indiana; and nine great-grandchildren: Autumn "Amber" (Steve) Shatto, Clayton "Brian" Turner, Allison (Demaury) Haywood, Brandon (Rachel) Alcorn, Amanda Alcorn, Mallory Alcorn , Lance (Jeni) Busse, Adam Busse, and Lexi Busse. She is also survived by 10 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart, and special friend John "Jr." Curry of Churubusco, Indiana.

Edythe led a full and vibrant life. Born in a time of great hardship, she bucked rivets during WWII and lived through the challenges of the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma. As a lifelong Christian, she remained steadfast in her faith, drawing strength and purpose from her beliefs. Above all, Edythe cherished her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, always finding joy in spending time with her loved ones. Her home was a place where everyone gathered to share stories, meals, and laughter.

Edythe had many passions in life. She was an avid gardener, with a special fondness for growing tomatoes, and was known for her skill in the kitchen, particularly for making the best homemade noodles in the world. She also enjoyed the occasional scratch-off ticket, finding joy in life's simple pleasures.

Edythe's legacy is one of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her kindness, humor, and steadfast faith will be remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.

Rest in peace, Edythe. You will forever be loved and missed.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 7:00 pm with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm until the time of service at Fairhaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services (6557 N. Clinton Street, Fort Wayne, IN 46825). Burial will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens (8408 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804) on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00 am.
