Dorothy J. Nusbaum Fry, 89, a woman of immense faith and compassion, passed away on August 22, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Wade Fry, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage. Dorothy embodied Proverbs 31:10-11: 'A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.' Dorothy and Wade's love story began in third grade, and he remained the love of her life until the very end. Dorothy's love for her family was profound, and she is survived by her two devoted daughters, Desiree J. Rayl and Nanette J. Alkire; son-in-law Jim Alkire; four cherished grandchildren - Brandon Rayl, Brittany Garretson, Logan Rayl, and Kally Alkire - and her adoring great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she leaves a legacy of love, faith, and service that will continue to inspire all who know her. Dorothy's passion for nursing began in 1953, shortly after graduating from Spencerville High School. She pursued her calling by entering the Parkview Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and later earning a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of St. Francis. Dorothy dedicated her thirty-year career to Parkview Hospital, serving in various essential roles until her retirement in 1997. Her true joy came from caring for others and positively impacting the lives of her patients and colleagues. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Northridge Baptist Church, 1300 East Cook Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46845 with calling from 11 am until the service. A funeral procession will follow to Scipio Cemetery. The Fry Family will provide a meal afterward at Northridge Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made and mailed to Heartland Hospice, 2720 Dupont Commerce Court #210 Fort Wayne, Indiana 46825. Dorothy Fry's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service. Her unwavering dedication to her family, profession, and community will forever be remembered and cherished by all who know her. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Wade, and may her spirit continue to inspire us to live with the same grace, kindness, and love she embodied daily.
