Donald Revel "Don" Porter, 90, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 17, 2024. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Don was the son of the late Lucile (Ehle) Gehring. After graduating from Central High School in 1951, Don enlisted into the military serving in both the Marine Corps and the Air Force from 1953-1962. Don graduated from basic training in California in 1955 and was accepted into flight school, graduating second in his class with his hometown bride Pat by his side. He was proud of his service as a Radar operator in the Marines, flying an F3D Skynight. Don always hoped he would get the opportunity to see his plane one more time and carried a faded photo with him in his wallet. His grandson discovered recently that the exact plane he flew is still used in air shows today. After military service, Don worked in automotive and truck sales until 2020. Don made so many lasting relationships during his working career. In his youth, Don enjoyed fishing, racing, playing softball and golf. He was an avid sports watcher and a die hard fan of both the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. Don had a funny streak in his personality. He loved a good joke and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Patricia "Pat" Porter; children, Donald E. (Lisa) Porter, Dennis E. (Pam) Porter, David E. (Jenny) Porter, Dawn E. (Bruce) Schneider; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert (Carla) Porter, and Roberta Showerman. Celebration of life service is 11 am on Monday, March 25, 2024 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph United Methodist Church. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
