Obituary

Dolores (Nork) Tomusk, 88, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dolores was the daughter of the late Willard and Adeline Nork. Dolores was proud of her job at the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank while a teen. She attended Mt. Sinai School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in Chicago, Illinois where she met her husband Tommy. She loved to travel, if only to make personal connections with people around the globe. She and Tommy loved the outdoors and were never far from a National Park, whether in WY or FL. Her love of cooking was second only to the joy of breaking bread with friends and family. After raising her children, she earned a BA from The University of St. Francis. She was a lifelong advocate for civil rights, including her role as a co-host for the Panel of American Women. Dolores was a volunteer and organizer for the Black and White Ball for much of the 60's and 70's. While her children were young, Dolores volunteered as a Girl Scout Camp Brownie leader for disabled girls. Dolores proudly attended marches and street protests to show support for women's health care options thru Planned Parenthood. She championed equal rights and desegregation, and supported access to quality health care for all. Dolores was a member of Ex Libris Book Club, and Trinity English Lutheran Church. Surviving are her children, Karen (Robert) Joppek, Linda Russell, Tiia Tomusk; granddaughters, Hanna Russell, Heili Tomusk; brother, Erwin (Ezra) Nork; niece, Susan (Peter) Millett; nephew, Roger Auer; and former son-in-law, Dan Russell. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. August "Tommy" Tomusk; and son, Erik Tomusk. Memorial Service is 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Trinity English Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne; 555 E. Wayne Street Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802 or donate at cfgfw.org/donate. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
