D.R. Murphy, 70 AKA Murph, MRFDOG, Owner of McMurphy’s Rock & Roll Restaurant passed peacefully on March 4th, 2026, with his beloved wife Shari by His Side.
Murph was born July 12th, 1955 the youngest of 5 children born to the late George and Elenora Murphy.
When Murphy was around 5 years old, he met a Neighbor boy named Al. The two of them would spend countless hours together. Having Fun, getting into a little Mischief every now and again. As they got older, they would even rake leaves or shovel people’s walks to earn some extra cash. They both ended up working at the North Anthony Car wash together. They both attended St Jude and Bishop Dwenger. Only one time did the Nuns pair the two together in the same class in grade school. But that would be short lived, because they were both ornery.
Once Murphy Graduated from Bishop Dwenger he tried college, not his cup of tea. He then went on to a variety of jobs; nothing caught his interest until he investigated the trades.
He decided Sheet Metal was the trade for him. He applied to be accepted and completed his Sheet Metal Apprenticeship on February 16, 1981. He was a Proud Member of the Local 20 for over 30 years. Retiring in August of 2010. He worked on a Nuclear plant out east, Lutheran Main Hospital and the GM Plant in Allen County to name a few. He worked all sorts of jobs in the field and in a Shop Setting. When CH Kraus moved to their new location, he became the Coilman, working the coil line. During his Sheet Metal career, he met quite a few good people. The person who had the biggest impact on Murph was Stanley. Murph and Stanley would form a bond that continued even after retirement. Stanley was like the son Murph & Shari never had.
When Murph was only 21 he bought his first house. Throughout the years many parties were thrown at this house, including raft races, Parades, well you name it, anytime would be a good time for a party at Murph’s house. If its alright, its all Night at McMurphy’s.
In 1979 he met a new D.J who arrived from Columbus, OH, Doc West. They would go onto form a really tight bond through the years. Attending Concerts together, enjoying vacations in Jamaica and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And spending lots of time just chilling and listening to music, talking about current events and discussing life in general.
In 1993 Murph met Shari who would be, as he said, his saving grace in life. Truth be told they saved each other! Murph and Shari enjoyed life to the fullest. Traveling, working hard, and playing hard. Doing Hot Air Balloon rides, and helping crew for a few. Seeing an active Volcano, Zip Lining, swimming with Stingrays, Playing the slots in Vegas, just having a blast together and sometimes with extended family.
They even built 2 different homes over the years. Enjoying every step of the process. And enjoying all the people they would meet along with the build process. As well as all the wonderful new Neighbors they would meet along the way. Like the Famous Uncle Ralph and Ms. Marion.
Murph & Shari were inseparable and had a very strong bond of love and adoration for one another. Murphy and Shari Never augured. They had enough of that aspect in previous relationships and chose to keep theirs as pleasant as they could. Maybe a few warm discussions on certain issues. But never anything but abounding love toward one another.
Now many know Murph for his wonderful Lawn. When he was younger, he did not care about his yard. People would park their cars in it, nothing phased him, just a yard. That all changed after he had dated Shari. They embarked on gutting most of the interior of his first house. Once that was all completed, he came up with the idea of scraping the yard of all the different grasses, and plant new. Who does that, anyway? In comes a High School friend The Grass Man, AKA Chuck. With help from the neighbor boys and George, and Chuck they stripped it and planted new grass seed. I bet the neighbors thought he was bonkers, except for one neighbor who stopped Shari and said I don’t know what you did with the old Murph, but I like the new version!! Chuck would help Murph with the planting of two more yards down the road. And they formed a Bond of Brotherhood that will always exist. Truth be told Murph’s hobby was a nice yard.
In Later years Murphy learned how to fly and Got his Pilots license. He would take Shari on Dates flying, they had a lot of fun flying together. He only stopped due to the Vertigo. That was a result of the years of wearing hearing protection in his line of work.
Murph was a Great friend, and a man bigger than life. Although Murph and Shari did not have children, they always had a 4 legged Cat in the house.
Murph will truly be missed by all who cherished him as a friend.
Murph is survived by his beloved Wife Shari, Sister Pat Clark, Brothers Dan Murphy of CA, and Brother Bill of Fl. To many nieces, Nephews, Great and Great nieces and nephews to count. And a Whole lot of Friends who were the Family he got to choose for life.
Rest in peace my friend until we meet again.
