Obituary

Delbert Clarence "Del" Johnson Sr., 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, September 12, 2022. Born in Livingston, Illinois, Del was a son of the late Clarence and Lucille Johnson. Lucille passed away early in Del's life and Clarence remarried Bessie Johnson. He served our country by being a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany. Del worked in the steel industry as a layout design employee prior to becoming an insurance agent with State Farm, where he served his community for 30 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Del had the gift of imagining, designing and making it real life. He loved teaching, music, cooking, was a great story teller, and had a passion for nursing home ministry. Surviving are his wife, Karen Johnson; children, Delbert C. (Jodie) Johnson Jr., Dave (Jeannie) Johnson; grandchildren, Jill Johnson, Julia (Jarred) Spieth, Katie (Ryan) Taylor, Kellie (Jordan) Lovens, David (Cady) Johnson, Andrew (Hailey) Johnson, Sara (Dylan) Tatman, Alexis Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Heather (Jesse) Smyth; and 4 siblings. Del was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Johnson; and 8 siblings. Service is 2 pm, Saturday, September 17, 2022 at New Heights Baptist Church, 1816 Klug Dr, with calling from 11 am until the service. Memorials may be made to New Heights Baptist Church Bus Ministry. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
