Obituary

Deanna Kay Freeland, 85, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2025 with her family by her side. Born February 16, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was a daughter of Harry and Helen Walters.   In 1957, she married Richard Joseph Freeland in Des Moines and they had three children, Kimberly Cook (deceased), Terri Derheimer (deceased), and Todd (Angie) Freeland.  Deanna worked as an executive secretary for many years at Banker's Life and Massey Ferguson International in Des Moines.  Then, in 1972 Deanna and her husband moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana when given the opportunity to be a franchisee for Pizza Hut, Inc of Wichita Kansas.  Like her generosity, her restaurants stretched far and wide.  In addition to the success of their business, Deanna was known for her limitless benevolence, altruism, philanthropy to many organizations in the Fort Wayne area.  Her experience in Junior Achievement as an adolescent fostered her love for entrepreneurship.  This motivated her desire to bring that opportunity to others in the Northern Indiana region as she was active in the Junior Achievement locally.  She also took great pride in being a founding board member at Turnstone Center.  In addition to her son, Todd, survivors include her sisters, Patty (Jerry) Davidson, Phyllis (Jim) Spratt, Judy (Ron) Smith; grandchildren, Lindsay (Darin) Falk, Ti ff any (Mike) Rego, Tyler (Felicia) Freeland, Dillon Freeland, Austin (Ali) Freeland, Deanna Freeland-Derheimer; and great-grandchildren, Connor Falk, Brody Rego, Kayla Rego, Julian Freeland, Beckett Freeland.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Joseph Freeland; daughters, Kimberly Cook and Terri Derheimer; and brothers, Jerry Walters and Dick Brackett.  Calling is on Monday, February 17th, 2025 from 4-8pm at The Chapel, 2205 W. Hamilton Rd S. Funeral service is on Tuesday, February 18th,  2025 at 11am with visitation one hour prior, also at The Chapel.  There will be a private burial service.   Arrangements by FairHaven Funeral Home.  Preferred memorials may be made to Turnstone Center.
