David Stephen Kelker, 74, passed on July 6, 2024 at Kingston At Dupont. David was born on July 22, 1949 at St. Joseph Hospital, the son of Edward Glenn and Maxine Elizabeth (Baker) Kelker. He attended St. Patrick Grade School and was a 1967 graduate of Central Catholic High School. A United States Army veteran, David served from 1969 to 1971. While serving in Vietnam, he was assigned to "C" Co., 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment, 1st Air Calvary as a rifleman. During his tenure he was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
In the mid-70's he worked for the VA as a counselor in Cody, WY with Vietnam vets who were having issues adjusting back to civilian life.
He worked for the National Park Service in Grand Teton National Park and Lake Meade National Recreational Area at Las Vegas, NV. While living in Boulder City, NV., David retired from the National Park Service in 1999.
He is survived by his brother, Edward R. (Michelle) Kelker of Fort Wayne, IN and his sister, Barbara E. (RB) Barnes of Pleasant Lake, IN; fourteen nieces and nephews and thirty great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael E. of Parsippany, NJ, Thomas J., James L., and sister-in-law, Gloria Kelker all of Fort Wayne.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 15, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (1502 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne) at 12:00 pm with visitation two hour priors. Burial will at the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne at a later date.
Preferred memorials are Masses for the repose of the soul of Mr. Kelker or the Alzheimer's Association.
