David E. Smith, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday September 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.
David was born in Fort Wayne to the late Roland and Marceline Smith.
David graduated from North Side High School class of 1967. He worked for many years at North American Van Lines (SIRVA). He then went to work at Cash America Pawn for nearly 20 years. He also delivered flowers. He volunteered at the Parkview Packnett Family Cancer Institute for 3 years where he assisted families that were there for treatment. David had an infectious laugh and an ornery sense of humor.
Some of David’s interests include singing and dancing. Anything sports related. He was a real outdoorsman. He was a runner, he biked and was an avid hiker. David once hiked the Grand Canyon in one day, he also hiked the Appalachian trail twice. Yellow Stone and The Grand Teton National Parks were some of his favorite places. Camping was always a part of these hikes and he did a lot of it.
David is survived by his wife, Cheryl West; children, Jennifer Hardy, Stacey (Matthew) Grashoff, and Brandon (Jodi) West, all of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Graisen, Brent, Ethan, Ella, Mitchell, Brady, and Harper; siblings, Clarissa Baker, and Travis Smith.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Terry and Roger Smith.
