Obituary

Daniel R. Stratton

October 14, 1942 — May 2, 2026

Dan Stratton passed away on May 2, 2026 at 83 years old. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Bay City, Michigan before putting down roots in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1974. For the last 30+ years, Leo, Indiana was home.

Dan lived life on his own terms. You could find him on the golf course, out hunting, or in his garden — almost always with his beagle Buck nearby. He had a directness about him that people either understood immediately or came to appreciate over time, and a generosity that needed no explanation.

He was also a man who knew how to have a good time, earning him the nickname of “Rebel” at a young age. He raced, fished, floated above the earth in a hot air balloon, and he soaked in more than a few hot tubs along the way. Dan himself would tell you he did his bucket list twice. Those who knew him believe it.

He was a proud member of Leo American Legion Post 409 for 35 years, where he was more than a member, he was a fixture. His Legion family knew him well and will feel his absence.

Dan’s great love was Barb Augsburger, who preceded him in death in 2024. Together they chased sunshine, warm beaches, and live music. Sammy Hagar was a favorite. Those who knew them knew they were better together.

He is survived by his brother Thomas Stratton and his wife Bobbie; his children Jennifer (Greg) Poe, Geoffrey Stratton, and Janelle Nash; and his grandchildren Vinnie, Blake, Lela, and Quinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel I. Stratton and Elizabeth “Betty” Stratton, and by Barb.

He will be missed by many and forgotten by none.
