Daniel J. Scheerer, 62, passed away peacefully at home after a very short battle with cancer, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Todd and Bonnie Scheerer.
Dan attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and was confirmed in 1977. He played on the Bethlehem Bullets football team in the 7th and 8th grades. He was a River Rat from North Side High School and graduated as a Redskin in 1981. Dan then joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1983-1987.
Dan was happiest being outdoors where he enjoyed gardening and pool time. He loved cooking on the grill for family and friends while listening to music. He had a wide range in musical taste from 50's and 60's, to classic rock and country. He was a frequent caller to Oldies 101.3 and was given the title of the "cookout king" when making song requests. Dan had an impressive collection of vinyl albums. Dan also enjoyed camping, bowling, shooting pool and playing cornhole and euchre.
Dan was a man of faith and blessed others by working at Bethlehem Lutheran Church as maintenance manager and volunteered as sound board operator for Sunday service.
Dan is survived by his wife who was his partner for 27 years, Amber Scheerer (Bebout), six children, Jeremy, Shaun (Trista), Starr (Daniel), Crystal, Cori (Kody), Nicholas; five grand daughters, Bailey, Riley, Karley, Aria, and Nova; mother, Bonnie Scheerer; two brothers, Brian Scheerer and Matthew Scheerer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Todd Scheerer.
A funeral service will take place at noon on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (3705 S. Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne) with visitation from 10 am until the service. Memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
