Obituary

Charles Freeman "Jim" Kroh, 96, died Saturday, November 6, 2021. Jim had been living in Fort Wayne at Park Place Retirement Center for the last two years. Jim was born, lived and raised his family in Syracuse, Ind. He was married to Sara Casey Kroh for 69 years. She preceded him in death January 10, 2019. He was the son of the late Charles Weaver (Jim) Kroh and Lucy Freeman Kroh. Jim was the oldest brother of seven children. Jane Clashman (Ernie) is the youngest and only living sibling. Other siblings include the late Mary Jo TeGrootenhuis (William), Susan Myrick (Carl), John Kroh (Gail living in Fishers, IN) and Tom Kroh (Ann living in Syracuse). A brother Stephen died during childhood. Jim attended Syracuse High School and Purdue University where he earned a Pharmacy degree. Jim worked and was co-owner of Thornburg Drugs in Syracuse. During WW II, he earned his wings as a Navy Aviator in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Sara and Jim had four children: the late Dr. Charles Casey Kroh (Lucia); Carol Kroh Gale (Bob); Stanley E. Kroh (Dawn); Laura Kroh LaRocque (Ed). Nine grandchildren: Charles Casey Kroh, Jr., Eric Kroh (Rachel), Dr. Evan Kroh (Sherry), Alex Kroh (Beth), Christina Gale (Alex), Robert C. Gale, Jessica Gale (Eric Rukavina), Lucas Price Kroh (Sara) and Marguerite Kroh. Five great-grandchildren: Harlee Meuy Kroh, Dexter Kroh, Lucas Otto Kroh , Charles Bennett Kroh and William Rukavina. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
