Carol Louise Stump Sumney, 87, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was greeted by her Savior Jesus Christ and welcomed into her heavenly home on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at Heritage Pointe of Fort Wayne following a period of declining health. Carol was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Robert J. and Bessie (Brown) Stump. She graduated from Mishawaka (IN) High School in 1953 and Parkview School of Nursing in 1958, and worked for many years as a registered nurse in the Fort Wayne area. She was known for her faith, friendship, loving care and devotion to her husband, and immediate and extended family, and she enjoyed keeping up with her cousins, and lifelong childhood, nursing and Brookside friends.
Carol married the love of her life, Roland Sumney, in Mishawaka, Indiana, in 1958, and together they raised five children and enjoyed 63 wonderful years together. She and Roland were longtime members of Brookside Church, and following their retirements, together they led a senior adult travel ministry at Brookside.
Carol is survived by her children, Mark (Tracy) Sumney, Williamstown, KY, Lora (Ken) Wilkinson, Yakima, WA, Todd (Kari) Sumney, Scottsdale, AZ, Carrie Lynn Sumney, Whiteland, IN and Carla Marie Sumney, Fort Wayne, IN, as well as eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Alexis), Emily & Caleb Sumney, Trent, Breanna (Ryan) & Sean Wilkinson, Brandon & Jacob Sumney, sister-in-law Sharon (Dave) Sumney von Gunten, and chosen family Lori Meyers, Amanda (Ben) Meyers Bauman and Emily (Kyle) Meyers Martin and son, Grant. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, infant brother James William Stump and sisters Marilyn Stump and Barbara (Michael) Nyikos.
A memorial service for Carol will be held at noon, Thursday, June 8th at Brookside Church, 6102 Evard Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with visitation at the church from 10:30 – 11:45 am.
