Bruce James Gerbers, 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bruce was a son of the late James R. and Ruth M. (Adams) Gerbers. He graduated from Woodlan High School.
Bruce married the love of his life, Victoria Leis, and together they shared 55 years of marriage before her passing in 2021. Side by side, Bruce and Victoria owned and operated several businesses over the years, including Gerbers Patio and Wood Burning Shop.
Bruce had a true passion for cars and motorcycles. In his younger years, he loved drag racing his 1965 GTO and remained a devoted car enthusiast throughout his life. He enjoyed attending car shows, taking drives in his Mustang with the top down on sunny days, and traveling across the country on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. One of his favorite places to visit was Colorado, where he enjoyed the beauty and peace of the mountains.
Bruce was also known for his outgoing and social personality. He loved playing euchre, visiting with friends, and never met a stranger. Although he spent many years as a dialysis patient, Bruce faced those challenges with remarkable strength and grace. He formed many meaningful friendships with both patients and caregivers along the way.
Surviving are his children, Rodney (Lany) Gerbers and Schely (Steve) Lengacher; grandchildren, Peyton Lengacher, Bret Lengacher, and Lillian Gerbers; siblings, Cyndi Keller, Jeanne (Bill) Harden, and Jeff (Tracy) Gerbers; along with many extended family members and friends.
Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Victoria Gerbers, and his sister, Joanne Bradtmueller.
A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 6557 N. Clinton Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
