The life of Betty Claire Verschaffel.

Betty Claire Verschaffel (DeVos) was born on August 27th, 1935, in Lokeren, Belgium. She was the youngest daughter of Petrus DeVos and Martha Mathijs. She had  a sister Lena  and brother Roger who is a happy 96 years old. She immigrated to the United States with her husband (former) Honore Verschaffel in 1959. She is survived by her two Daughters Doreen M. Verschaffel and Cynthia J. Brasseur (Verschaffel). She has Two grandchildren by Cynthia, Taylor A Davis and Chandler R, Davis. She has a large loving family in Belgium that will miss her smiling face.

Betty loved life. She was a singer back in the day in Europe with the big bands. She loved all kinds of music and was a feisty lady. Great sense of humor. She loved craft shows (knitting scarves, Christmas ornament etc.) and made amazing rum cakes for repeat customers every Christmas. Her life was filled with many friends that loved her dearly. She was a bartender for over 40 years and made an extensive network of friends along the way. After bartending she wasn't ready to retire and went to work for the Lassus Handy Dandy Gas station family. She worked there for over 20 years and finally retired at 85.

Betty C Verschaffel passed away on August 22, 2025 Surrounded by her family, including her niece from Belgium, Rita DeGroote.

Service to be held on August 30th, 2025 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, 6557 N Clinton St, Fort Wayne, IN. 3:00-5:00 visitation and service at 5:00
