Obituary

Betty J. "Granny" Godschalk, 102, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 30, 2021. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Betty was a daughter of the late Charles and Frances (Sachs) McKown. She graduated from Monmouth High School, class of 1938, where she amazingly wrote the school song. Years later, she earned her dental assistant certificate. Betty was known as "Granny" to all. She always had a warm smile, hug, and extra food because she was convinced you always were hungry when visiting. Her wisdom was cherished and her love selfless. Granny liked gardening; bowling; golfing; reading and porch-swinging with her grandchildren; talking to her cats, and rolling a game of full-card Yahtzee. Most of all she loved her family. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Surviving are her children, James (Susan) Hilgemann, Sarah Doehla; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and sister, Helen Dugas. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Joellyn "Joey" Krauskopf; siblings, Marcella Deam, Jeanne Whitehurst, Nellie Clark, Norma Jo Mahan; son-in-law, Brian Doehla; son-in-law James Krauskopf and grandson, Thomas Hilgemann. Service is noon, Monday, November 15, 2021 at Headwaters Church, 2000 N. Wells Street, with calling from 10 am until the service. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Our Hope Lutheran Church. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling the arrangements.
