Obituary

Betty Alice DeSelm, 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. She peacefully went home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Betty was born to Aubrey and Dora Lash on January 1, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the middle daughter of three girls. In her younger years, she was an incredible athlete lettering in multiple sports. She was a proud graduate of Central High School. Betty worked for Pontiac Florist and Broadview Florist prior to her own business she started, DeSelm Catering Service. Betty gave her heart to Christ when she was 50 years old. Those who knew her remember her contagious joy, infectious laughter, and servant's heart. She and her late husband, Jim, hosted many Bible studies out of her own home for decades. As time went on, she enjoyed reading, conversing with others on the phone, and praying for her kids, grandchildren, and friends. Surviving are her children, David (Gwen) DeSelm, Joel (Judy) DeSelm, Amy (Dick) Kinnaird; grandchildren, Nathan (Lisa) DeSelm, Jennifer (Tim) Wiggins, Christopher (Audra) DeSelm, Jim (Karri) DeSelm, Daniel (Katie) Kinnaird, Andrew (Tanya) DeSelm, Thomas Kinnaird, Jeff (Samantha) DeSelm, Laura (Chris) Horvath; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharran Gavin. Betty was preceded in death by her husband James DeSelm, and sister, Virginia. Service is 3 pm, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Fellowship Missionary Church, 2536 E. Tillman Road, with calling from 10 am till noon and 1 pm until the service. A Graveside Service will be 10 am, Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fellowship Missionary Church. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
