B.J. Smith, 72, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021. Born in Warsaw, Indiana, on November 13, 1948, B.J. Was the daughter of the late Laurence and Imogene Smith. She graduated from Winamac High School in 1967 and earned her B.A. in English Literature from Indiana University in 1972 B.J. spent years in the D.C. Area working as a job recruiter. She came back to Indiana to be closer to her family in 1983. She earned her real estate license and sold homes in the Fort Wayne area. She became a broker and did statewide training of prospective agents. B.J. was a past president of the Fort Wayne Area Association of Realtors. B.J. had a strong faith in the Lord and was a lifetime United Methodist. She was always surrounded by her cats and received much joy from them being with her when she was housebound. B.J. was an avid reader and did beautiful cross stitch work. She is survived by her brother, Laurence L. (Susan) Smith; niece, Lauren (Doug Hertel) Hodges; nephew, Jonathan (Mary Kathryn) Smith; great nieces and nephews; Trevor (Kaitilyn) Hertel, Mamie (Maxwell) Vangoey, Heidi Hodges, and Sophie Hertel. Celebration of Life will be 11 am, Saturday, November 20, 2021 at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Road, with gathering from 10 am until the service. Memorials can be sent to Fort Wayne Humane Society or St. Joseph United Methodist Church, Ft. Wayne with the memo umcor. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
