Obituary

Beth Diann Boswell, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, following a brief illness. Born in Akron, Ohio, Beth was a daughter of the late Eldon Paul and Evelyn Aileen (McKee) Neher.
Beth was a lifelong learner and dedicated nurse. She graduated from Hillside High School in Hillsdale, Michigan (1959). She earned her Nursing Diploma from Bronson School of Nursing (1962) and her Bachelor of Science from Western University (1976). While living in southern California, she obtained her Nurse Practitioner’s Degree in Family Medicine from the University of California-Davis (1980). Never one to stop learning, Beth went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Medical Sociology from Western University (1990).
Beth worked in the Bronson ER following graduation from nursing school. She worked as instructor at the Bronson School of Nursing until moving to Lancaster, California in 1978. After obtaining her NP, she worked at Antelope Valley Family Practice Center in Lancaster, California. In 1982, she opened Boswell Family Medicine in Three Rivers, Michigan where she worked alongside her husband, David Boswell until his death in 1985. She worked at Planned Parenthood of Kalamazoo, leading the patient care team, focusing on women’s health and education.
Beth was a creative and talented seamstress her entire life. She learned to sew as a girl and spent the rest of her life creating beautiful clothing for herself and those she loved. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching. Many of her creations will live on in her families’ homes. Once retired, her passion became quilting. She spent most days working on her quilts and enjoyed attending the weekly quilting group at Tucson estates when she lived in Tucson, Arizona.
Beth was friendly and was known to approach new residents at Georgetowne Place to introduce herself and make them feel welcome. She was briefly on the resident welcome committee. Her caring and compassionate nature extended to her many pets throughout her lifetime, and she missed not having a pet the last four years of her life.
Most of all, Beth cherished her family and showed her love through her kindness, encouragement, and presence in their lives. She will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Surviving are her children, Carrie (Kim) Gloystein, Andy (Julie) Tanner, and Sarah (Doug) Barrow; grandchildren, Tess (Justin) Cargo, Tanner Gloystein, Tara Gloystein, Dylan Barrow, Sadie (Arturo Roosen) Tanner, Kate (Michael) Byler, and Malea Tanner; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Evelyn Cargo and Ezekiel Byler, with one more great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Sharon Zook and Stephen Neher.
Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Morton Wagenfeld.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 27th from 2-4pm in the Gathering Room at Georgetowne Place, 1717 Maplecrest Rd, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
