Barbara Annette (Plasterer) Kellogg was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana into a large and loving Catholic family. She excelled in school, finding a particular interest in science, which continued through her life. She attended Saint Mary's College in the fall of 1973, and soon met her best friend and soul mate, Kevin, who attended the University of Notre Dame (just across the street). Kevin and Barbara soon became inseparable, beginning a love story that spanned fifty years, marrying and having eight children and twenty-five grandchildren.
Barbara's dream was to be a mother, and she was able to stay at home, raising her children and making a home. Barb and Kevin were a team, so when the family needed a little extra cash, Barb periodically worked outside the home as well, processing medical insurance. In her fifties, she went back to school for medical coding, earning a certificate and a 4.0 gpa. Her family could not have been prouder of her late-in-life scholastic achievements.
Barbara homeschooled seven of her eight children and was active in a local homeschooling group for several years. She and Kevin taught marriage and family classes at their church, offering decades of wisdom and experience to other couples. Barb also was a beautiful writer, maintaining two blogs and corresponding with friends and relatives regularly.
Barbara loved Scrabble, Grace Livingston Hill books, collecting teacups and saucers, whimsical jewelry, and denim jumpers. Above all, she loved QUILTING, and nearly reached her goal of completing two hundred quilts. She was also a woman of faith, who taught her children to know and trust God through her own shining example.
Barbara was intelligent, kind, funny, thoughtful, and accepting. Everyone who met her, loved her. She will be missed so much. She is survived by her husband Kevin, sister Janet and brother Mike, eight children, and twenty-five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings. A Celebration of Barb's Life will be 11 am, Friday, July 5, 2024 at First Assembly of God, 1400 W. Washington Center Road, with calling from 9:30 am until the service. Memorials may be made to Cancer Services of NE Indiana. FairHaven Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
