IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anita
Geier
November 3, 1931 – August 26, 2025
Anita Effie (Mattison) Geier
, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 26, 2025. She was at peace with the end of her life, ready to go home to the Lord, and experienced no pain in her final days.
Born on November 3, 1931 in Elmira, NY, Anita was known for her love of games, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone—she truly never met a stranger. Whether playing cards, board games, or working through word search puzzles, she found joy in both the challenge and the company. She loved Scrabble so much that she would often play against herself, being very excited when she "won".
After raising her family, she worked briefly for Ft. Wayne Newspapers, then became a nanny for many years. The families she nannied for kept in touch with her after she retired from caring for their children.
A prolific writer of poetry, she filled countless pages with her thoughts, observations, and reflections — capturing life's joys and sorrows with honesty and grace. Her words were a gift to those who knew her, and her poems will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, who died in 2009.. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Glen Geier, who held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her 8 children, Ronald (Susan) Geier, David Geier, Patricia (Tony) Treat, Margaret Geier, Anne (Jon) Gideon, Julie Geier, Cheryl Geier, and Andrew Geier. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, many of whom will remember her every time they play a hand of Skip-Bo.
A celebration of life will be held to honor her life at a later date. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, conversation, and love — and a reminder that life is best lived.
