Aida R. Toffolo passed away February 8, 2026, at Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Evansville, IN, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Zemira (Reggio) Toffolo.
She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in education and taught at Franke Park Elementary School (FWCS). In the fall of 1973, Aida, along with her life-long friend Gaye (“Happy”) Walts, founded Blackhawk Christian School on the corner of East State Boulevard and Lahmeyer Road. In the first year of the school, there were 33 enrolled students in grades Pre-K through 4 and four teachers. Today, the school serves 1065 students daily with a staff of over 120. In her tenure at BCS, Aida taught 1st grade, 4th grade, and served as elementary principal. She left Blackhawk for a brief hiatus to found Immanuel Christian School. Aida retired from education in 2000, but her heart remained invested in kids. She was a member of Headwaters Church (Fort Wayne).
Aida was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Coughlin, four brothers: Bruno Toffolo, Mauro Toffolo, Romeo Toffolo, and John (“Ham”) Toffolo, and her friend, Happy. She is survived by ten nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in the Worship Center of Blackhawk Ministries (7400 East State Boulevard) at 11:00 am Saturday, February 21, 2026.
